Visit inspiring eco homes, where householders show and explain how they save energy and cut bills. Find out what would work for you (or not!) eg: comfortable insulation, hi-tech & renewable energy, DIY, low-cost improvements, taking control of your heating. 12 varied Cambridge-area homes, new-build and retro-fit, will be open on 30th September and the 6th October. The ones posted here are just a sample. 5 additional workshops will provide practical advice on particular home improvements like DIY measures, insulation and low-carbon energy. Booking is essential. Open Eco Homes is 9 years old and for this 9th year we will be opening 12 homes from across Cambridge and neighbouring villages Impington, Girton and Grantchester. We will be opening houses of all ages and types, renovation, new-build, including self-build, co-housing and developer led projects. 4 free tours are available for most homes on each day. Booking, from mid-August, is essential – via www.openecohomes.org
This year we also be running Eco Homes for All, a festival of good ideas, which will include five workshops on self-build, community-build, Solid Wall insulation, draught-busting and getting your house ready for climate change.
